...to the dogs

More than 80 punters "went to the dogs" in September to help raise money for the Journalists' Charity. The Midlands District have been staging their annual greyhound night at Hall Green Stadium in Birmingham since 1979. Despite the recession, they raised more than £2,000 this year, thanks to generous support from their sponsors.
"We are particularly grateful to Scottish and Newcastle Ltd who were the main event sponsors again this year," said district chairman Laurie Upshon. "Raising money for charities has become extremely difficult, but we are very lucky to have the continued backing of the Greyhound Racing Association and a number of loyal corporate sponsors."
Other companies supporting the event included Royal Mail, Associated Newspapers, the Racing Post, The Sun, Associated Newspapers, PA Sports, Rex Johnson, Sky Sports and SIS TV.
In addition, raffle prizes were donated by Highgate Breweries, Renault Cars, the GRA and a number of individuals. The annual Dogs Night is the longest-running charity event held at the Hall Green stadium.
