A letter from Chairman Robert Warren

29/01/2008
To begin with, thank you for your support over the years. Anything our members can do for us is appreciated.

I am sure you know that your charity has recently built a new care home in Dorking. It is a state-of-the-art facility. This and other escalating costs mean that our fund raising system needs to be totally revised.

Therefore, we are discontinuing the £50 life membership fee and inviting prospective members to make a bankers order payment of a minimum £5 a month. After two years membership of the charity will be offered.

The truth of the matter is that the £50 membership does little to help with today's costs, and small donations now cost more to process than their monetary value.

We rely on you, our members, to promote this new membership campaign amongst all journalists. You may even feel inclined to make a bankers order payment yourself to secure the future of your charity. We do hope so.

Your continued support will be recognised by preferential invitations to attend the functions we are planning for the year including more open days at Pickering House. You will also receive regular newsletters.

The first 25 members who sign up for the bankers order payment will be invited to join us at the annual London Lunch on March 6 at Simpson's-in-the-Strand with guest speaker David Cameron - at a bargain price of £25. Please contact the Dorking Office if you are interested.

If you are on email please do let us know.
