London Press Club drinks in aid of The Charity
3/07/2008
The Journalists' Charity was the theme for the London Press Club's regular drinks party at the Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street
Plain John Smith, veteran foreign correspondent and People columnist, gave one of his great comic entertainments to a larger than normal gathering.
Charity Chairman Bob Warren ,thanking John, reminded them all that the Charity had spent £4million on a new care home for needy journalists and was spending £350,000 supporting others.
"It is an unfortunate fact that journalists do not come far up the table for public sympathy," he said
"So it is up to us to help ourselves."
Direct Debit forms were distributed all round.
A raffle raised £200
