Harmsworth House

Harmsworth House

The Journalists’ Charity has five extra care flats in Dorking which are available to rent for those in need of personal care but who would like to retain the independence of their own home. They would be ideal for couples, where one person is in need of more personal care than can be given by their partner.

The flats are situated in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty within the Green Belt countryside and are surrounded by three acres of landscaped and fully accessible grounds.

The flats have two bedrooms, a sitting /dining room, kitchen and bathroom. Two of the flats have been newly built and there is a lift to the first floor flat. There are three other ground floor flats, which have been extended and refurbished. All flats have their own washing machine.

Residents may take their meals at Pickering House Care Home for a small charge. A hairdresser and physiotherapist visit weekly on request. A minibus, run by the charity, goes to the centre of Dorking twice a week, plus trips further a field during the year are arranged.

Care will be provided by the Journalists’ Charity Domiciliary Care Service.

If you are interested in Harmsworth House or wish to apply please call 01306 887511.

The aims of the Journalists’ Charity are to help journalists, their dependants and familes in need. If you are any of these you will be eligible for consideration for a place at the Harmsworth House Extra Care Housing – as will parents of working journalists.

Tenants will be responsible for council tax, gas and electricity.
