Our care home
Situated on the outskirts of Dorking, a pleasant town in Surrey, Pickering House is the Journalists’ Charity Care Home. It is registered to provide nursing and personal care to 20 residents, aged 65 and over, eight of whom may have a diagnosis of dementia. Residents are encouraged to maintain their independence, within their physical or mental limitations.
Residents are assisted and supported to meet their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs and wishes. They are given a choice in the way help is provided and how they spend their time.
The care home is situated in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty within the Green Belt countryside. Pickering House itself is surrounded by three acres of landscaped and fully accessible grounds.
The facilities offered are on three wings, one of eight bedrooms and two of six bedrooms. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with a shower. There is a quiet lounge on each floor. The lower ground floor comprises a dining room, bar, fitness area, activities room and chapel. There is a library area and a guest flat is available for visiting relatives.

The aims of the Journalists’ Charity are to help journalists, their dependants and familes in need. If you are any of these you will be eligible for consideration for a place at the Care Home – as will parents of working journalists.
If you need help from your local authority, you will need to be assessed by social services. Once you have been assessed and the level of financial help decided – any remaining contribution required to meet the Care home costs will be discussed with you.
