Case one
Divorced applicant living alone. User of mental health services. In receipt of Working Tax Credit. Not using the electricity in her home due to dispute with electricity board. Referred to social services. Grant made to pay off arrears and weekly £20pw to supplement income.
Case two
Journalist and writer. Visually impaired. User of mental health services. £500 choir fees and hire of Braille scores to aid therapeutic recovery.
Case three
Columnist for a weekly magazine. Currently unable to work due to spinal injury (car accident). Help with utility bills and weekly grant to supplement basic state benefits until she is able to return to work.
Case four
Stroke and dementia older person needing 24 hour care. Direct payments from Social services. A weekly grant helps to meet the shortfall in grant funding from social services to enable her to remain in her own home.
Case five
Formerly a Journalist and translator. He is now a single parent family following his wife's death. 2 dependent children. Struggling to cope. £50pw grant and payment of utility bills has helped ease their financial situation.
