Promoting our work in the North-East

The Charity is growing steadily and last month we started the work of setting up another regional branch in the North-East. Six members of the council went to Newcastle and arranged a meeting with a cross-section of local journalists.

David Leach, our regional representative for many years, was the key figure in arranging the event along with Laurie Upshon, who represented the successful West Midlands area.

Paul Jones, Head of PA's Foundation Course Training at Newcastle, accepted our invitation to work alongside David to set up the new regional branch.

Other journalists offered their support.

Robert Warren, chairman of The Journalists' Charity, said "There was enormous enthusiasm for the plan and there's no reason why our North-Eastern branch shouldn't soon be matching the others in raising money for our work and helping journalists in need. I wish them every success."
